JOHOR’S PROGRESS SINCE 2024

9 May 2024 — In my opening royal address during the first State Assembly session as the Regent of Johor, I stated that my priority for Johor is to enhance the Economy, Education, Infrastructure, and Healthcare so that the Johoreans may enjoy a better quality of life.
The following are Johor’s achievements since that royal address:
ECONOMY
- Johor’s GDP in 2024 recorded a growth of 6.4%, the highest in Malaysia and exceeding the national average of 5.1%.
- Johor recorded approved investments worth RM56 billion in the second quarter of 2025, the highest figure in the country.
- The Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) Agreement was successfully signed on 6 January 2025, targeting 50 projects and 20,000 skilled job opportunities within five years.
- The establishment of the Invest Malaysia Facilitation Centre-Johor (IMFC-J), which as of August 2025 has received 73 potential investments worth RM27.33 billion.
- As of the second quarter of 2025, 42 data centre projects with investment value amounting to RM164.45 billion have been approved, generating 6,000 job opportunities.
- Johor’s state revenue in 2024, for the first time, exceeded RM2 billion, with actual receipts of RM2.1 billion compared to the initial projection of RM1.9 billion.
- A total of 4,378 hardcore poor household heads under the first phase were successfully eradicated as of 31 July 2024.
EDUCATION
- The State Government has launched the Johor Nation Pilot School, with an allocation of RM27 million for infrastructure upgrades, operations, and intensive teacher upskilling training sessions.
- The KPYJ Transformation – School of Hospitality & Tourism has been upgraded with an allocation of RM3.8 million, with the project scheduled for completion in December 2025.
- The first three recipients of the Johor Youth Scholarship have successfully secured placements at world-renowned universities.
- Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Seri Kota Puteri 2, Pasir Gudang, one of the Johor Nation Pilot Schools (SRBJ), achieved success at the Global Link Singapore 2025 innovation competition held at Nanyang Technological University on 26–27 July 2025.
- A total of 212 teachers have been sent in phases to undergo training at the National Institute of Education (NIE), Singapore, in preparation for the implementation of Johor Nation Schools at four pilot schools beginning on 17 February.
INFRASTRUCTURE
- The Gemas–Johor Bahru Electrified Double Track Project has now reached 99.48% completion, with ETS services extended to Kluang on 30 August 2025, and scheduled to reach Johor Bahru by December 2025.
- The Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link Project is progressing on schedule and is expected to be fully completed by December 2026.
- The North-South Expressway Phase 1, Package A project from Senai Utara to Kulai commenced in June 2024 and is scheduled for completion in June 2027.
- The North-South Expressway Phase 1, Package B project from Kulai to Sedenak commenced in June 2025 and is scheduled for completion in December 2027.
- The Upgrading of the Senai–Desaru Expressway Phase 1 Project commenced in November 2024 and is scheduled for completion in April 2027.
- The approval of water supply infrastructure projects amounting to RM991 million with a capacity of 260 MLD has increased Johor’s readiness to continue attracting high-quality investments, including data centres, which will support the agenda of positioning Johor as an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Hub.
HEALTHCARE
- The completion of Pasir Gudang Hospital, which is scheduled to be fully operational by March 2026.
- The State Government has allocated funds to upgrade four critical health clinics, namely KK Gelang Patah, KK Majidee, KK Tebrau, and KK Sultan Ismail.
- Southern Volunteers (SV) collaboration, where 21 volunteers were deployed to Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA) to assist in ensuring smooth operations at the hospital’s emergency ward.
- A contribution of 985 patient beds for use in government hospitals through donations from various NGOs.
- KPJ Johor Specialist Hospital (JSH) made history with the successful execution of a robot-assisted surgery – a milestone achievement in strengthening competitiveness in high-tech healthcare.
