ROYAL DIPLOMACY: PRESIDENT PUTIN WELCOMES SULTAN IBRAHIM AT THE ICONIC HERMITAGE MUSEUM
His Majesty King of Malaysia Sultan Ibrahim was warmly received by His Excellency Vladimir V. Putin, President of the Russian Federation, at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg today (26 January).
The arrival of His Majesty at the Hermitage Museum, one of the most prestigious in the world, reflects the high regard of the Russian Federation towards the friendship between the two leaders.
Founded in 1755, the museum is among the largest and oldest art and cultural museums in the world, housing a collection of more than three million artworks and artifacts.
His Majesty also graciously spent time, accompanied by President Putin, viewing part of the historic collection and world-class artworks exhibited at the museum.
This special inaugural visit of His Majesty to Saint Petersburg was at the personal invitation of President Putin, symbolizing the important role of Malaysia’s Royal Institution as a driver of national diplomacy.
In August last year, Sultan Ibrahim visited Moscow for a State Visit, making history as the first Malaysian Head of State to undertake a State Visit to the Russian Federation since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1967.
His Majesty also graciously visited Kazan, Republic of Tatarstan, during the same year.
