JOHOR BAHRU: The Crown Prince of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim had advised that sports amenities and facilities in the state to be well maintained and open to the people.

He also had advised that more competitions should be organized by utilizing the amenities and facilities to the maximum after the Covid-19 pandemic ends.

“For me, the state government has worked hard to develop sports in Johor, and the amenities and facilities I visited today are merely the start of a vision for Johor to achieve success in various sports,” said Tunku Ismail in a Facebook post on HRH Crown Prince of Johor, today.

Earlier, Tunku Ismail and his wife, Che’ Puan Khaleeda Bustamam visited the Larkin Arena to inspect and check the preparations of the Indoor Stadium and Aquatic Center after the event venues were completed in conjunction with the Malaysian Games (Sukma) Johor 2020 which had to be postponed to 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Tunku Ismail said, although Sukma Johor which was supposed to be held this year has been postponed, the two venues were fully developed in terms of training facilities and sports events.

With all the amenities available, he hoped that Sukma Johor 2022 would be able to unearth talented sportsmen and sportswomen and form a new generation of Johor champions.

The Indoor Stadium at the Larkin Arena built next to the Tan Sri Dato’ Haji Hassan Yunos Stadium can accommodate 7,000 spectators and host various events such as badminton, basketball and sepak takraw. Meanwhile, the Aquatic Center (formerly the Johor Bahru City Council Swimming Pool) which is now of international standard is capable of hosting swimming events which can accommodate 1,168 spectators.
