MEETING WITH JOHOR BAHRU MAYOR AND WATER MANAGEMENT AND DRAINAGE SYSTEM EXPERTS

Today I had a meeting with Johor Bahru mayor Dato’ Haji Mohd. Noorazam bin Dato ‘Haji Osman and water management and drainage system experts. They gave a briefing on initiatives and efforts to improve flood mitigation in Johor. The meeting was held following a flood disaster that hit Johor since the end of last year until now. Floods are a problem that occurs almost every year. Although there have been improvements in flood mitigation efforts since the events of 2006, I intend to find a permanent solution to the flood problem in Johor. THE DISTRIBUTION OF BASIC NECESSITIES TO THE FLOOD VICTIMS

The distribution of food boxes to four districts, namely Segamat, Tangkak, Muar and Batu Pahat have been completed. We will also be providing more basic necessities to all Flood Relief Centres (PPS) tomorrow morning. LATEST REPORT ON THE FLOOD SITUATION IN MUAR AND SEGAMAT

The river water level in Muar is currently decreasing and all previously inaccessible roads can now be used by all types of vehicle. In Segamat, the number of Flood Relief Centres (PPS) in operation is now at 18 and only 299 families are still affected. I have also delivered 2,000 food boxes to be distributed to flood victims including those who have returned to their respective homes.
